Christmas Eve Dinner

Dec

We’re hosting Christmas Eve dinner again this year for Brian’s family, so I’ve been researching different menu ideas.

A formal Christmas Eve menu from Martha Stewart. I’d need to do a regular roast and change the dessert a little to make it gluten-free.

Bon Appetit‘s menu looks good but a bit intense (it comes with a game plan!). Southern Living‘s Casual Christmas Eve dinner is the frontrunner currently because shredded pork is easy to do in my Crock Pot.

The menu from Eating Well is healthy, which would decrease the possibility of feeling sluggish Christmas morning. Lucinda Scala’s meal is Italian-inspired and looks interesting.

I still miss Blueprint magazine.  I own all nine issues, and I still refer back to them.  Last month, Kirsten at Simply Grove blogged about a house tour originally featured in Blueprint, that is now available at Martha Stewart.  So, I pulled out issue number three (the best issue, btw) and read the article.  My favorite picture is the one above, I love that beach scene!

The oversize photo was take by the house’s owner, Tosca Radigonda, at an Italian beach.  Ms. Radigonda is a professional photographer, but a Google search leads me to the conclusion that this work isn’t for sale.

All of my Google searching led me to the work of Massimo Vitali, who has made a name for himself with his own photographs of Italian beach scenes.

This photo is listed for 25,000 Euros at the gallery that represents him.  I don’t even want to convert that to US dollars.  Actually, it would be cheaper for me to buy a fancy camera, fly to Italy, and have my photo enlarged.  I find it so frustrating that a photograph can go for so much- was the negative destroyed?  This is why people roll their eyes at high end art.

Regardless, the photographs of beach scenes are very inspiring.  Who doesn’t want to think about a sunny day at the beach?  I wonder if the beaches of Seattle would look this good…

New Martha Stewart Scissors

May

I am the proud owner of two new pairs of craft scissors!  I stopped by Michael’s today, after reading on Decor8 that all Martha Stewart Crafts products are 25% off until May 23rd.  I’d seen Martha talk about her scissors on her show a few weeks ago, and this sale was the perfect reason to pick them up.  I got a pair of all purpose scissors (regular size), and a pair of precision scissors (small).  My mom taught me the importance of having separate fabric scissors, but I hadn’t thought of having dedicated paper scissors until Martha talked about it on her show.  Also, we just moved, and our regular old purple handled scissors have gotten packing tape gunk on them from opening up all the moving boxes.

They both cut really well, and you can adjust the tension on the blades (for cutting through thick paper).  I also wanted to get them because each pair comes with a plastic pouch that snaps shut AND a plastic blade cover.  I’m really looking forward to using the small ones on upcoming projects- I like the idea of making small, precision cuts on my collages.

As I said above, the sale is on ALL of her products- there were some really cute labeling stickers that I just may have to go pick up before the sale is over.
