Fun With The Dressform: Warming Up

We’re in the season of turning on the defroster in the morning, but rolling down the windows when you get off work.  Layering season!  I went with a jacket that isn’t too heavy, so you won’t look too silly carrying it around with you at the end of the day.  You can wear the scarf with the dress after ditching the jacket- some lady on t.v. said it’s okay to wear a print and a stripe as long as they’re in the same color family.  Holding a bunch of tulips optional.

Fun With the Dress Form: Mid 70s

When it comes to fashion history, I think the 70s take the prize for everyday glamour.  Hair was shiny and full of volume.  Gold jewelry everywhere.  Jeans that made your legs go on for miles.  This outfit captures that 70s glamour, but doesn’t look too dated.

Terrarium Update!

100_2900

Saturday was a perfect example of spring weather; bright, warm, and sunny.  I decided to get out and pick up some plants for inside and outside my place.  I repotted the coleus and chenille plant, picked up some pansies and petunias for outside, and found some tropical plants for the window box- including a terrarium!

I didn’t think a terrarium would make me this happy; there is just something about looking through the glass into the little ecosystem.  I’m really tempted to pick up a little gnome to add to this living diorama.

Fun With the Dress Form: Crisp Cotton

100_2889

The spring weather has been such a tease; sunny but moderate one day, rainy and windy the next.  I am getting very antsy.  I just want to throw on a cute dress and hop on my Vespa!*

I swear on a stack of Girl Scout Handbooks that I will throw this ensemble on as soon as it gets over 77 degrees.

Unexpected Beauty

I was shopping at U Village today with my sister, when we came across this beautiful, detailed construction fence.

I was so impressed!  I’ve never seen such a work of art surrounding a construction project.  These little critters were all carved into the wood.  What a bit of unexpected beauty while shopping.

Fun With the Dress Form: Dreaming of Paris

100_2737

When you live in Paris, you have no choice but to be chic and fashionable.  At least, that’s the impression I’ve gotten from everything I’ve read about the place.  I’ve also read that Americans stick out in an embarrassing way.  Hopefully this outfit won’t get you too many eye rolls Francais.

Fun With the Dress Form: Cool and Comfy

100_2716

You’re hitting the clubs, and you want to pass the dress code, but you also don’t want to hobble your way home.  These flats are chic enough to bring out at night, and leggings aren’t just for wearing under Union Bay sweatshirts any more.

Fun With the Dress Form: Audrey Aspirations

100_2712

There is something about black leggings and flats that will always bring to mind Audrey Hepburn.  Cut some bangs and throw your hair up in a ponytail to complete the look, and wait for people to do a double take at the mall.

Fun With The Dress Form: Fancy Weekend

I own a dress form (technically, a mannequin, but that doesn’t sound as artsy).  I own clothes.  I like to put together outfits.  I am such an artistic control freak that I don’t trust someone else to take pictures of me in outfits.  Also, it’s more fun to style on a dress form.

May I present to you, the new weekly feature: “Fun With the Dress Form”.

Imagine that you are someone who spends your weekends doing something other than sitting around in comfy pants, eating Mallomars dipped in peanut butter while watching the third season of Gilmore Girls on DVD.  Imagine that you go out to brunch, followed by a trip to the farmers’ market.  This would be a great outfit to wear.

January 20th, 2009

I’ve been crafty!

I’m guilty of letting the blog slide for a few months, but I have actually been keeping the craft flame burning. I’ve been doing collage out of old magazines. It’s something I started doing in college, to decorate mix cd covers, or for cards for my friends. Well, I’ve taken my collages, scanned them, and turned them into photo cards. I’ve also set up a shop on etsy.com.

While there is a satisfaction and sense of accomplishment that comes just from making things, it’s also nice to know that other people (specifically: strangers) like your work. Also, just having an etsy shop keeps me motivated in the people-pleasing-supply-and-demand section of my brain.
