The Price Tag to Prove It!

I was cruising Target the other day to pick up, oh, I don’t know… toothpaste or something, and I spotted this fun little pair of flats. The shoes and toothpaste are nowhere near each other at my local Target- I confess to taking a lap of the store just for funsies.

It’s been a while since I’ve bought shoes from Target- cheap shoes usually leave my feet with blisters and an ache- but considering these shoes cost just a bit more than the two-pack of toothpaste I was there to pick up, I threw caution to the wind and bought these as well.

I wore them out shopping, and they did rub my feet a bit red, but I also own more expensive shoes that have done the same. I’ll file this away under “bargains”.

Four Months Later…

I bought this dress at Old Navy back in February, and the weather around here has been so cold and rainy that it has just sat in my closet with the tag on. We actually had a warm, sunny day this weekend; I knew what I had to wear.

The B. Makowsky sandals are new, I just got them at the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale. I’d never heard of this brand before, but they are really comfortable, and the leather is really soft. The sunglasses are Ray Ban, and the purse is Coach. The necklace is from Claire’s; I bought it back in college, and is the most complemented piece of jewelry I’ve ever had. Rope bracelet “on loan” from my momma.

Moccasins On My Mind

So, my favorite pair of shoes is actually my slippers. Don’t worry, my favorite pair of pants isn’t sweatpants, I just have a thing for comfortable shoes. My moccasin-style slippers are strictly in-house, though, so I’ve been looking for something to wear when I hit the streets.

These Moccasins from Manimal are the most traditional looking, and I love the ribcage detail on the front of the shoe. I also like how soft and flexible they look; most moccasins I’ve seen in stores are like suede penny loafers, with a hard, inflexible sole.

This Trail Boot from Arrow Moccasin Company is nice and sleek looking. I can see it paired with shorts or leggings. I also like the shine of the leather, and think it would wear quite nicely.

So, I only learned about Quoddy because of their partnership with J.Crew, but I totally dig these Ring Boots. There is just this awesome mix of rugged traditional and edgy contemporary.

All of these shoes are handmade in the USA, which at a minimum, helps justify the cost. But, it’s also nice to know that these shoes were made with skill and attention, when so many shoes fall apart quickly.

Fun With The Dressform: Warming Up

We’re in the season of turning on the defroster in the morning, but rolling down the windows when you get off work. Layering season! I went with a jacket that isn’t too heavy, so you won’t look too silly carrying it around with you at the end of the day. You can wear the scarf with the dress after ditching the jacket- some lady on t.v. said it’s okay to wear a print and a stripe as long as they’re in the same color family. Holding a bunch of tulips optional.

When it comes to fashion history, I think the 70s take the prize for everyday glamour. Hair was shiny and full of volume. Gold jewelry everywhere. Jeans that made your legs go on for miles. This outfit captures that 70s glamour, but doesn’t look too dated.

The spring weather has been such a tease; sunny but moderate one day, rainy and windy the next. I am getting very antsy. I just want to throw on a cute dress and hop on my Vespa!*

I swear on a stack of Girl Scout Handbooks that I will throw this ensemble on as soon as it gets over 77 degrees.

Fun With the Dress Form: Dreaming of Paris

When you live in Paris, you have no choice but to be chic and fashionable. At least, that’s the impression I’ve gotten from everything I’ve read about the place. I’ve also read that Americans stick out in an embarrassing way. Hopefully this outfit won’t get you too many eye rolls Francais.

Boatneck tops. French sailor shirts. Bateau T. Many names, basically the same style. I’m looking to replace my well worn striped boatneck top that I bought at the Gap many moons ago. I picked up this dress at Old Navy last month, but it hasn’t been warm enough to wear it, and it rides up if you try to wear it with leggings.

This L.L. Bean version is a classic, but I’m worried that the fit will be too boxy. They aren’t exactly known for form fitting styles over there.

This one from the Gap is a bit dressier, and plays with the stripes.

In the April issue of Lucky, a Loft version is featured, but it doesn’t seem to be available on their website (I wonder if I’m too early or too late?)

Is it weird to want to buy all of them?
